Multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW) is a seismic technique used to characterize the shear wave velocity of the subsurface. The MASW Seismic Survey method resembles seismic refraction in that it involves inducing a sound wave into the subsurface, which is then recorded along a traverse line equipped with an array of sensors. However, MASW leverages the dispersive properties of Rayleigh-type surface waves to ascertain the changes in shear wave velocity with depth.
